Zooloween Questions

Many people have spiritual questions, especially around Halloween time. Below is a list of questions and answers on topics you may wonder about.

1. Have the dead ever walked out of their grave?

“and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.” (Matthew 27:53)

2. Has anyone talked to a ghost?

It happened once in Scripture, but he had to leave heaven to do so. When someone talks to ghosts, they are really talking to demons.

Then the woman said, 'Whom shall I bring up for you?' He said, 'Bring up Samuel for me.'...she said, 'An old man is coming up, and he is wrapped in a robe.' And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground and paid  homage.” 1 Samuel 28:11-12, 14 (1 Samuel 28:11-12, 14)

3. Is Hell Real?

Hell is very real. Jesus many times called it a place where there is “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” It is a place for those who don’t know Christ as their Savior.

“The poor man died and was carried by the     angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades (hell), being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and     Lazarus at his side.”

4. Has anyone seen a demon?

People have seen demons or at least the evidence of them.

"...for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light."

2 Corinthians 11:14

"And when Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain...And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs;" - Those present with Jesus would have saw this.

5. Is Magic real? Deuteronomy 18:10-11

Real magic draws on occult and demonic power. It is associated with divination, conjuring, and sorcery. What we see in Disney movies is not magic.

“The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders.”

2 Thessalonians 2:9

6. Should we fear Satan? Matthew 10:28

Those who have a relationship with Christ have no need to fear Satan.

"And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

Can people talk to the dead?

No. They would have to come out of heaven or hell to talk to the dead.

“There was a rich man...And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus,  covered with sores...The poor man died and was carried by the angels to     Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades (hell), being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side.” "Luke 16:19-23

What power do Satan and demons have?

Satan has only the power that God allows him to have, but it is a lot. Satan and    demons will eventually lose all rule on earth.

“And the Lord said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your hand. Only against him do not stretch out your hand.” So   Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.” Job 1:12

Life is more than what you see

We are spiritual beings with physical bodies created in the image of God. Yet, every one of us is part of a spiritual battle. God's original plan was for humankind to live perfectly forever in a perfect world. However, Lucifer (Satan), One of God's most important angels, decided he wanted to take the place of God, so he tempted Adam and Eve, God's first people He created, to disobey God.

Several things happened as a result of this disobedience.

--First, Satan became pure evil with the desire to defeat God's plan and rid the world of all that is good.

--Second, sin caused physical and spiritual death for all of mankind.

--Third, we became enemies of God.

--Fourth, this world lost its perfection, which we call a "fallen world."

We experience "the fall" every day . We get sick, we suffer emotional and physical pain. At times we struggle with relationships and with life in general. Some have even experienced demonic attacks and others have really seen demons.

God has not given up on you

While every one of us has disobeyed God and have become his enemy, including you, He has not given up on you. God desires to restore your relationship with Him. Scripture says, "but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8). John 3:16 also says, "For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." God desires a relationship with you! "The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance." (2 Peter 3:9).

What does God want you to do?

Simply put, God wants you to turn to God by repenting of your sins and believing that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for your sins. Repent means that, by faith, you choose to turn away from your sins to a relationship with God. It is choosing to make God the Lord of your life. Scripture says, "But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God" (John 1:12).

When you place your faith in Jesus Christ, you have won the spiritual battle. God promises eternal life for all who place their faith in Him. That does not mean you won't have times of hardships and struggles. You will still experience the effects of sin, but you have nothing to fear, not even Satan nor demons, because you have a Savior who loves His children with an everlasting love. He promises that no matter what happens to you in this life, He will always be by our side. He promises to never leave or forsake you. Will you place your faith in Christ today?
